With recent interest in high temperature (> 100° C) PEM fuel cells,1 a misconception among some that Nafion~R has a glass transition temperature (T_g) at 100°C has led to concern regarding the mechanical stability of these membranes at elevated temperatures. Surprisingly, until recently, a true glass transition temperature of this exhaustively studied ionomer was not precisely defined for the most common H~+-form of the polymer.
