In a Belgian coal fired power plant, a flue gas purification was installed, consisting of a den-itrification unit and a desulphurisation unit, complementing the electrostatic filter units. The radiological impact of the installation was evaluated. It is shown that the overall radiological impact of the flue gas purification system is negligible to the plant workers and to the general public, and the by-products such as fly ash, bottom ash and gypsum can safely be used in building materials without problems from the point of view of radiation protection.
