Testing the Performance of X-ray SystemsDesigned for Passenger Baggage and CargoExamination

This paper describes a project in which the performance of X-ray systems designed forthe examination of passenger baggage and air cargo has been undertaken. The performance ofsmall tunnel systems (<1000mm X 100mm) using the ASTM F792-02 standard suitcase isdescribed. Because no standard test systems exist for the testing of medium and large tunnel X-ray examination systems new standards have been developed, and the performance of a number ofcommercially available X-ray have been evaluated using these standards. Brief comment will bemade on the performance of these X-ray examination systems in the operational context.
