During setting gypsum plaster (hemihydrate, CaSO_4*0,5H_2O) is rehydrated to CaSO_4*2H_2O. This incorporation of water forms a crystalline microstructure with a high stability. The setting process is fundamental for the manufacture of gypsum wallboards and other gypsum products. In this project the potential mercury release from FGD-gypsum plaster during setting was studied in lab experiments.
