ADA Environmental Solutions (ADA), through a DOE Cooperative Agreement and support from EPRI and several power industry partners, is evaluating the potential of post combustion CO_2 capture (PCCC) using solid sorbents in a temperature swing process. Laboratory-scale sorbent evaluation, bench scale testing, and an iterative cost analysis were used to develop a commercial scale conceptual design. Once a process was selected it was then reduced in scale to serve as the basis for a 1 MW_e pilot. Detailed engineering and procurement has begun, and testing will be conducted at Alabama Power Company's Plant Miller Station. Significant results and major conclusions from the sorbent evaluation and equipment assessment will be presented and the conceptual design described. The scope, status, and schedule of the project will be discussed with a focus on the fabrication and installation progress. A majority of the project funds are being provided by the DOE National Energy Technology Laboratory's Innovations for Existing Plants (IEP) Program.
