This paper presents a real-time XML-based architecture that supports multimodal accessibility of the board and the presentations in the classroom. This system can support content from books, or other educational material, either in printed or in electronic format. It is language and content independent. This approach includes, as an intermediate step, the production of Digital Talking Books compliant documents. Two different methodologies for the multimodal rendering of documents' text formatting, structure and layout metadata are used, the first based on semantic extraction and the second on the reader's emotional state extraction. Implementation details are also provided.
