This contribution describes the simulation of the time dependent desaturation process around an excavated opening at the argillaceous Tournemire site. With comparative simulations the sensitivity of material parameters has been investigated. Two zones around the opening can be defined: a seasonally influenced zone in the near field, caused by the sea-sonal fluctuation of the air humidity, and a long term influenced zone in the far field, caused by the mean value of air humidity. In order to validate the developed model and to verify the chosen range of material properties, the simulation results are compared with in situ measurements of saturation profiles.
