Owing to the business of legacy software, the migration of procedurally oriented systems to object-oriented platforms is a feasible approach by abstracting object-oriented models in existing software systems with reverse engineering method. This paper proposes an improved object-extraction method based on the key data types of subroutines. We introduce the concepts of type complexity and type coefficient to analyze the relationships between subroutines and user defined data types in a non object-oriented system. This method has been implemented successfully in our experimental automatic C to C++ conversion system, which can better help students to grasp the characteristics of object-oriented language.
