NIST CONTRIBUTIONS TO STRENGTHEN FOOD AND NUTRITION MEASUREMENTS

For over 100 years the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has developed certified reference materials (CRMs), known as Standard Reference Materials (SRMs), for determination of chemical composition. These SRMs play an essential role in the validation of analytical methods, as control materials to assure measurement quality, and as tools to provide metrological traceability to national and international standards. Since the early 1970s NIST has provided natural-matrix SRMs for the determination of trace inorganic and organic constituents in environmental, clinical, food, and dietary supplement matrices.
