The Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Solar Energy Technologies uses a systems-driven approach to program management. The approach uses market analysis, modeling, and test and evaluation to prioritize research needs and assess progress. For each target market application, a reference system design is developed Parametric analysis of the reference design is used to identify technology improvement opportunities that will lead to lower levelized cost of energy.
