The Bay class are a class of Landing Ship Dock operated by the British Royal Fleet Auxiliary. They are driven by Diesel-Electric propulsion systems with two azimuth thrusters and one bow thruster. At the bridge, Imtech's DPT3500 system acts as the heart of a modern Integrated Bridge System providing not only the functionality of an Autopilot, a Trackpilot and a Speedpilot, but also that of a DP2-ready Dynamic Positioning System. The paper discusses the properties of this system. Although it will provide an impression of the system's architecture and functionality, it focuses on how ship operations will be affected by such a system and what that implies for the navigator.
