THE FUTURE IMPACT OF IMPORTS ON THE US MARKET

As most of you know, I publish the Preston Pipe & Tube Report. This is the only publication that tracks the domestic and import supply in detail. We do this on a monthly basis. We do not buy or sell pipe or equipment, nor do we accept any advertising. Also, we work closely with the suppliers, the International Trade Administration (ITA) and the International Trade Commission (ITC). We are the scorekeepers. To understand where the market is going, we first have to examine what has happened over the last five years as well as our projections for 2007 and 2008. We have prepared individual slides for each of the seven commodities and one for All Pipe and Tube. All data includes both seamless and welded product. Shipments are in net tons. This first one is for OCTG. You will note that there are three categories. Domestic Shipments, Other Imports, and Chinese Imports. The combination of Other Imports and Chinese equal the import supply.
