Back in Black: Innovative Curricular, Outreach, and Recruiting Activities at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology

摘要

This paper details a number of innovative, hands-on recruiting and outreach activities created by faculty in the Materials and Metallurgical Engineering (MME) Department at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (SDSM&T). These activities are part of the NSF-funded Course Curriculum and Laboratory Improvement (CCLI) grant called Back in Black. The use of blacksmithing and other kinesthetic activities rooted in metallurgy has been highly successful in improving curriculum development, outreach activities and recruiting.
