Due to an increased interest in alternatives to hydrocarbon fuels, CO/H{sub}2 or syngas - which is produced during the coal gasification process - has become a candidate fuel for power-generation gas turbines. Thus a need for computational fluid dynamics modeling of the complex processes that occur within the burner of a gas turbine engine has been generated. Computer limitations make it difficult to couple the fluid mechanics solver with the full combustion chemistry. Therefore, simplified chemistry models are required. This paper provides simplified correlation models for CO/H{sub}2 chemical reaction times. The procedure used for the CO/H{sub}2 simplified modeling utilized the full chemistry mechanism run over a range of temperatures, pressures, mixtures, and equivalence ratios to determine ignition (or reaction) time. The conditions covered were between 700 and 1800 K for temperature, 0.5 and 50 atm for pressure, 0% to 95% CO for mixtures, and 0.2 to 2 for equivalence ratio. The correlations for ignition times are given in formulas as functions of equivalence ratio, temperature, and pressure. A single correlation was developed for the entire range of conditions. This reduced correlation was verified using results from the full mechanism.
