During mains operation asynchronous machines may cause transient torques in the air gap. These transient torques are caused by e.g. faults or by switching operation. The transient torques cause torsional stress in the power train. Otherwise they also cause dynamic foundation forces, which load the foundation. Therefore the foundation of the asynchronous machine has to be designed to resist these dynamic foundation forces. In the paper a method is described, how to minimize the dynamic foundation forces by choosing a suitable foundation stiffness.
