The world population is expected to grow from 6.2 billion in 2000 to around 8.2 billion in 2030.Over this same period,per capita dietary energy consumption is expected to increase by around nine per cent.Simultaneously,an increase in the proportion of meat in diets is anticipated as incomes improve.In addition to an increase in food and feed production,agriculture will have to meet increasing demand for fiber and bioenergy from crops.
