To maximize the potential for getting their work published and recognized, engineers need to constantly and aggressively work at honing their marketing, public relations and communications skills-and at becoming visible within the industry and beyond. By doing so, engineers can greatly improve their prospects for getting more and better recognition for engineering achievements, for their firms and for individuals within the firms. Recommendations are given on how engineers and engineering firms can achieve recognition through contact with the media and involvement in community leadership. Presented are a wide array of activities and pursuits engineers can participate in that would interest reporters, editors and newscasters. Ways to reach and make presentations to the media, both trade and non-trade outlets, are outlined. Reasons for why engineers should strive to get noticed for their award-winning projects and outstanding achievements and for enhancing their visibility and stature are featured.
