Today I would like to present thoughts on how we as engineers can best achieve successful designs in structural steel. First, I will discuss design; what it is and what it is not. Secondly, what is successful design and how we can best achieve it. Lastly, what all of us (practitioners, fabricators, detailers, erectors, and educators) can do to assist the next generation of structural engineers.
