Polypropylene resins have always been desired with improved melt-strength characteristics. Applications where improved melt-strength would be beneficial include blow-molding, foaming, thermoforming, and extrusion- coating. Approaches such as post-reactor electron-beam treatments have been around for quite some time. Flint Hills Resources (FHR) has developed a new generation of polypropylene resins with improved melt- strength over conventional resins via proprietary technology. Improvements in melt-swell, melt-tension, and dynamic rheological parameters are discussed as it translates to industrial applications and end uses.
