摘要

This work presents the results from an analysis which considers the interaction between a crack and surrounding microcracks. The method of complex variables is used to derive explicit expressions for the stress intensity factors. The results are computed and discussed for a variety of geometrical configurations of microcracks, with the intent of developing an understanding of the shielding and amplification phenomena. A qualitative experimental technique of photoelasticity is used to validate the patterns of the iso‐stress.
