A new actuator with high performance is proposed based on three kinds of widely researched actuators, which is called smart material-hydraulic hybrid actuator and considered as "power by wire". The structure and principles are described and explained, while the simulations are discussed to show the performance of the actuator. Several device prototypes are put forward, which are improved to solve problems such as power and transfer efficiency.
