New Connector Family for Differential Signal Transmission Offer High Bandwidths together with High Signal Integrity

The demand for ever-higher bandwidths and transmission speeds - in particular in telecommunication and data communication applications - is met in backplane expansion systems through two technological trends. On the one hand, at moderate speeds, the density and the bus width in parallel bus structures are being increased further and further (32 bit, 64 bit, etc). On the other, high transmission rates are implemented in rapid point-to-point links with differential signals, which is especially advantageous in complex systems with several slots. Both approaches require appropriate high-performance connectors. The following article describes a new modular connector system for differential point-to-point data transmission at up to 2.5 Gbit/s and beyond.
