In this virtual session, two leaders from a Teacher Preparation Program in California will explain thestate's mandates for teacher preparation programs as they relate to technology. Specifically, thepresenters will provide an introduction to California's Level 1 and Level 2 Technology Standards,explaining how the Level 1 standards focuses on how the K-12 teacher utilizes technology to promoteteaching/learning (and are addressed in the teacher candidate's “preliminary” credential program)andhow the Level 2 Standards focus upon how K-12 teachers can teach their students how to usetechnology (and are addressed in the novice teacher's “induction” program). Additionally, thepresenters will share a detailed syllabus that shows how one teacher preparation program in SouthernCalifornia has designed an innovative course to address these standards. In this context, thepresenters will talk about University/K-12 partnerships and the use of technology in the K-12classrooms (including the issue of access).
