Antifouling coatings on various substrates due to self-assembly monolayers (SAMs) and grafted polymers have been widely studied for biomedical and biotechnological uses. However, a number of studies have revealed that antifouling surfaces do not possess long-term stability due to the degradation and detachment of SAMs and grafted polymer chains. Here, we propose novel stimuli-responsive materials with self-healing antifouling surface via 3D polymer grafting, which consists of polymeric chains grafted both to the surface and inside the polymeric host materials (Fig. la).
