The data accuracy and precision of Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC) is tightly related to its sample preparation. High density polyethylene with ultra high molecular weight portion (MW > 1 M g/mol) and broad polydispersity brings more challenges for HT GPC characterization. High temperature triple detector GPC using a "systematic method"1 is used for HDPE characterization at the Dow Chemical Company. This study addresses how the sample preparation of HDPE samples including dissolution solvents, sample concentration, sample solution filtration, and sample solution thermal treatment and treatment of solution with nitric acid, affect the TD GPC characterization.
