The planning process together with monitoring of performance against commitments is critical to maintaining focus upon the delivery of an organisation's strategic objectives. Often considered to be the domain of the finance department the planning process as a tool to deliver strategy is more appropriately the responsibility of all managers within an organisation, as each and every one has a role to play in formulating and achieving shared objectives. Leading practice will include an integrated process which enables communication and confirmation of Board and senior management expectations, addresses operational capability, delivers performance commitments that align to strategy and allows measurement and reward for contribution to achieving the organisation's goals.
