Enzyme-catalyzed asymmetric reactions have attracted a lot of interest as one of the most important fields in organic and pharmaceutical syntheses. Immobilization of enzymes onto solid supports may render these catalysts more mechanically robust and thermally stable, and allow for ease of separation from the reaction media. Through immobilization, the catalytic activity of these systems may also be enhanced due to reduced enzyme aggregation, especially in non-polar organic media.
