Heat -Integrated Concepts from Chemical Reaction Engineering to Environmental Engineering

It is my great pleasure and privilege to dedicate this presentation to the upcoming 70th birthday of Harmon Ray. Scientific cooperation and personal friendship between our families are now extending more than 40 years. We have both seen Chemical Reaction Engineering maturing through several dec- ades. Throughout these years, a special focus of my work in Stuttgart has been on the coupling between heat transfer with chemical reaction and on the exploitation of our findings for novel, "integrated" reactor concepts. In my talk I would therefore like to give a brief reminder of earlier work but also discuss some more recent applica- tions in Chemical and Environmental Engineering.
