Molybdenum Nitride Synthesis by Gas-Solid Reaction for Catalysis Applications

Recent research shows that the combination of transition metal can make materials with attractive catalytic activity, stability, selectivity, poisoning resistance. Nitrides of metals transitions match extreme hardness with high mechanical and thermal stability, been used as structural components of high temperatures, cut tools, resistant covering, catalyst. However for nitrides powders been used efficiently as catalyst they should exhibit a high surface area. In this study high surface area Molybdenum Nitride (MoN2) was prepared by the temperature programmed reaction with N2+H2 mixed gas. The precursor used was ammonium hepta molybdate-AHM, ((NH4)6 Mo7O24 4H2O), which was heated up to 933K and held for 1h under H2+N2 flow, 5/1 was the flow ratio and 0,5g was the bulk of precursor spent. The objective of this researcher is to achieve a high surface area nitride witch could be used as a good catalyst in petrochemical reactions. Applications of Molybdenum nitride (Mo2N) on catalysis will be carried out soon in hydrotreatment reaction supported by alumina at 360°C and under 137 bar and their results will be published later.
