Beishan, located in Gansu province, Northwestern China, has been selected as a potential area for China's high level radioactive waste repository. Granite is the host rock in this area. Since 1999, systematical site characterization technologies have been used, and the performance and effectiveness of methods such as remote sensing technology, geological mapping, surface electromagnetic survey, diamond borehole drilling technology, borehole injection test, borehole acoustic televiewer survey, borehole radar survey, hydrogeochemical logging and geostress measurement have been evaluated. So far, those methods have been proved effective and useful in Beishan, a granite site.
