Introduction: Recently the computer has been introduced in various surgical procedures. The total knee arthroplasty navigation systems have been developed to improve the accuracy of alignment of the components. Correct alignment of the leg and positioning of the implant has been shown to be an important factor in the successful long-term outcome of total knee replacement. Joints in which the angular alignment is excessively valgus or vams have been linked to a higher failure rate. During the procedure the computer can provide information about the mechanical axis by using anatomical landmarks and by calculating the rotational central of the femoral head. The objective of this study was therefore to determine whether computer-assisted total knee arthroplasty leads to a more accurate positioning of components and to assess the reliability of the computer data.
