Electrodiagnostic medicine is a complex consultation that relies on clinical insights, technical skills, solid normative data, and sound clinical judgment. Such consultations frequently influence surgical decision making and can have profound influence on subsequent diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. Only experienced and well-trained physicians should perform such diagnostic procedures. A healthy appreciation for the spectrum of normal value seen in people of different ages and heights should be maintained. Normative values should be well derived and interpreted correctly by electrodiagnosticians to avoid overcalling common disorders. Sufficient testing should be performed to confidently identify the suspected disorder and eliminate from the differential other confounding conditions.
