摘要

Among 1800 Iranian spinal cord injured veterans, 21% are suffering with at least one pressure ulcer. We compared the outcome of low level Laser therapy (LLLT) plus treatments of pressure ulcers, with that of conventional treatment alone in 16 subjects. The healing process was statistically enhanced by combination of LLLT with routine treatments. In Iran, based on the results of a 1998 survey, 21% of Spinal Cord Injured (SCI) veterans are suffering with Pressure ulcers (1). The majority of these patients require surgical treatments for their ulcers. The current treatment of Pressure ulcers takes pains, taking prolonged periods of time which includes measures to enhance the natural healing process of ulcers and is only effective if pressure is lifted from the site of ulcer (2). The evidence regarding the positive effects of LASER on the healing process through induction of local vasodilatation and enhanced tissue perfusion, its relative feasibility and lack of significant side effects and cultural burdens made us carry out this study.
