This study begins by analyzing the technical difficulties that have been challenging the attainment of a thermonuclear fusion reactor for the past 50 years. It then shows that these difficulties can be alleviated to the point of leading to the practical solution of the thermonuclear reactor problem if the configuration of the reactor is drastically changed. In this reactor, all losses are almost entirely recovered as electricity. Based on such a reconfigured reactor, it is shown that a few watts of net fusion energy can be obtained in a continuous way, with present knowledge of fusion technology, in a demonstration plant.
