PGD by Polar Body Biopsy

Epidemiology shows that preimplantation genetic diagnosis for screening purposes (PGS) is widely spread, more than conventional PGD. It is performed primarily by blastomere biopsy, but in some countries mostly for judicial reasons also by polar body biopsy (PBB). It is still an experimental procedure and requires a high scale cooperation of clinics, embryology and genetics. The clinical benefits of PGS, also by PBB, are still discussed. But astonishing high aneuploidy rates fund in oocytes demand for a clinical solution in order to improve results of artificial reproductive technologies (ART).
