Modern structures have to be designed against earthquake actions. Not enough time is available to teach enough earthquake engineering at Universities of applied science. Therefore only the most important topics have to be treated so that the future engineers may apply finite element programs. In this paper a way is indicated how earthquake engineering is taught in undergraduate courses at the Bernese University of Applied Science.
