Numerical analyses were carried out for the elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) of elliptical contacts with spinning and rolling. The centre of spinning , was assumed to be located on the axis passing through the major radius of the contact ellipse. Under steady-state conditions with spinning and rolling it was found that the spinning motion has significant influence on the film profiles along the major axis of the contact ellipse but hardly affects the film profiles along the minor axis. It was proved that pure-spinning can generate a complete lubricant film in an elliptical contact, although at the centre of this contact entrainment is absent. Time-dependent solutions were achieved for the contacts with spinning and rolling with dynamic loading, and it was found that film thicknesses can be increased to some extent by the dynamic loads.
