Green chemistry for the transportation industry: is it only for fuel replacement? Obviously not, as vehicles body contains several organic chemicals. Coatings used to protect the vehicle body against corrosion, are mainly based on chemicals derived from the oil industry. The main environmental target for the coating industry is to decrease drastically the organic solvent emissions. Four approaches are made to achieve VOC reduction: high solids, waterborne, powder or radiation curing technologies. The industry has therefore put little priority to the use of renewable raw materials.
