Lightweight design is one of the core competencies in classic sports car construction. Here the focus of lightweight design activities is increasingly including safety components using thermoplastic fiber composites. Normally steel has been the material used for brake pedals but in this project the suitability of a plastic brake pedal for series production has been demonstrated for the first time. At the same time the weight of the component can be reduced by about 30% to 50% in comparison with steel versions.
