Engineering plastics are ideal materials for highly loaded structural parts. They can be used with short fiber, long fiber and continuous fiber reinforcement. Processing can take place without difficulty in injection molding, injection compression molding and compression molding. Furthermore, the behavior of parts made of these materials can be reliably predicted by integrative simulation techniques. The development of such a part made from thermoplastic laminate with continuous glass fibers and overmolding into a serial application is described using the example of the seat pan of the Opel Astra OPC.
