Within several EU-Projects different monitoring systems have been evaluated regarding their suitability for reducing the inspection and maintenance costs as well as the traffic impairments.One part dealt with portable techniques for assessment of reinforcement corrosion.During this work potential field mapping and a portable equipment based on the galvanostatic pulse method(GPM)were tested and compared in different situations at laboratory and on-site conditions.This paper compares GPM measurements performed at laboratory and on-site to results of potential mapping.Additionally results of average corrosion rates determined by weight loss and galvanostatic pulse technique were compared.Special attention was paid to the comparability of instrument readings to real behavior.Finally the necessary precautions which need to be taken when the on site data are used for service life prediction of structures are discussed considering environmental effects and technique to be used
