Ethylene Acrylic Elastomers(AEM)can vary in oil swell and low temperature properties based on the level of acrylate monomer content.Use of plasticizers can improve low temperature performance and lower the oil swell but introduce their own heat stability issues.A new low temperature AEM polymer has been developed providing improved low temperature performance without use of plasticizers.Data is presented on AEM compounds with varying oil swell and low temperature properties in aging tests including ones associated with seal performance such as compressive stress relaxation(CSR)demonstrating the relationship of oil swell and low temperature properties for optimum seal performance.
