The 'Puzzle' of Anti-Sapstain Chemical Testing: A Review of Field Trial Methods

The presentation will review trial procedures and results around the world for several products without mentioning any products or producers' names, but rather concentrating on the meaning of the results, rating scales used in the evaluation, differences observed from region to region or wood species in term of efficacy or stain control. An attempt is being made to solve the "puzzle" of finding the best anti-sapstain control product despite the significant variations in efficacy of the treatments andsometimes the contradicting results obtained for the same product, same concentrations but different environment and weather conditions during testing. Some of the most recent efforts by the R&D team at Arch in this area are being reviewed, emphasizingthe scientific interpretations and aspects of these field trials aimed to evaluate the stain control treatments.
