ORIGINS AND HISTORY OF THE STANDARD OBSERVERS

Antecedents of the trichromatic theory canbe found before the establishment of standard colorimetry. The 1931 standard colorimetric observer was established from experimentally determined spectral chromaticity coordinates and from the spectral luminous efficiency function of the CIE standard photometric observer V(lambda) previously published in 1924. The 1964 supplementary standard colorimetric observer was directly obtained from experimentally determined colour matching functions.
