Arizona Wind Energy Development Exclusions: An Analysis of Land Suitable for Wind Energy Development in the State of Arizona

Arizona lands and wind energy resources were analyzed using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to determine suitable land for wind energy development and the potential wind energy capacity. This poster shows which areas of land can and cannot be developed in the State of Arziona. It highlights the importance of United States Geological Survey (USGS), 30m, GAP Analysis, satellite data in identifying urban/developed lands, wetlands, forests, and other important ecosystems. Topographic Position Index, a method for identifying ridge crests, mesas, and other important landscape features pertinent to wind energy development is also presented. It concludes by showing the potential impact of Military Training Routes on wind energy development.
