Issues to be Improved after Introduction of a Non-customized Electronic Medical Record System (EMR) in a Private General Hospital and Efforts toward Improvement

A non-customized system of EMR is usually chosen to avoid the risks and/or cost associated with customization in a private hospital. Then hospitals must change their procedures from those which meet their individual requirements to those which suit the functions of the EMR. In order to elucidate the disadvantages, a questionnaire survey about any effect on work responsibilities after introduction of the system was performed. The results indicated that more than 50% of the subjects reported positive changes in "efficiency", "speed", "accuracy" and "development of nursing plans" while relatively more subjects reported negative effects in "communication", "missing records" and "overtime".
