Codes that impose the (d,k) run-length constraint, where d is the minimum and k is the maximum number of zeroes that can occur between a pair of successive ones in a bit stream, have been traditionally used in data storage channels to mitigate the effects of inter-symbol interference (ISI) and to enable better receiver clock synchronization.
