Exchange coupled composite media (ECC) has been proposed and prototyped for 1 Terabit/in{sup}2 perpendicular magnetic recording [1,2]. Currently systematic experimental investigation is very necessary to guide and select a proper theory [1-5]. We will report our recent experimental advances on ECC media, including proper fabrication conditions, new fundamental findings and first spin-stand recording performance testing.
