Performance of SRM drive can be customized to suit several applications through appropriate control. Rotor position sensing is an integral part of SRM control due to the nature of reluctance torque development. Position sensing can be done by employing shaft position sensors. However, in recent years a wide variety of sensorless schemes have been introduced in order to reduce the cost, decrease the complexity and increase the reliability of the system. The base of these methods is the measurement of the variables such as voltage, current, chopped current rise time and fall time, and then deriving variables including inductance, incremental inductance, flux-linkage (λ) and back EMF[1].
