摘要

In order for magnetic recording technology to reach a recording density of 1Tbit/in{sup}2, Head-Media Spacing (HMS) must approach 2-3nm [1]. As part of HMS, fly height of the slider has to be stable and remain ultra-low through proper air bearing designs. Previous studies [2] have concluded that at these ultra-low fly heights, the presence of interfacial forces, e.g., van der Waals (vdW) force, significantly affects air bearing flying characteristics. Therefore, it is critical to accurately predict the vdW force and incorporate it into air bearing design process.
